What started as a seemingly cordial race for a U.S. House seat in Houston has taken a sharp and nasty turn. Representatives Al Green and Christian Menefee, both Democrats representing Texas, found themselves in a head-to-head primary showdown, forcing them to campaign against each other while still serving together in Congress. My voting record is 97.9% over 20 years." He further highlighted instances where Menefee missed crucial votes, including a classified briefing on the Iran war, emphasizing, "He needs to know that this is where we work."
The Other Side of the Story: This sharp criticism came after Menefee, who had maintained a positive campaign approach, commented on election night, "A 20-year incumbent, getting desperate, got negative." Axios reported that Green's campaign had run a now-deleted ad accusing Menefee of making a "deal with the devil" with "Trump crypto cronies." Menefee's response was strong: "Al Green, you can tear us down, but I'm gonna build us up. And I will not lose my integrity for no damn elected office."
When questioned about Green's recent remarks, Menefee stated, "That sounds like the remarks of somebody who is desperate because they've been in office 20 years and they were down on the first ballot."
